Lauren DiMascio Hilary is a strengths-based, neurodiversity affirming speech-language pathologist who believes communication is a right and not a privilege.

As a practicing speech-language pathologist since 2008, she has a lot of experience working with all kinds of speech and language difficulties and associated diagnoses.

These include articulation and phonological disorders, language delays, social communication difficulties Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) and students with Autism, ADHD, Down Syndrome and Angelman’s Syndrome. Currently, she works as itinerant speech language pathologist in a public school system and is very familiar with the IEP process and special education law.

Lauren has extensive experience and a passion for students with emerging communication skills and complex communication needs. She has strong clinical skills with augmentative alternative communication (AAC) including feature matching students to an appropriate system as well as teaching children and their families how to implement various communication modalities. Lauren has been trained and/or has had experience with the following AAC systems: Proloquo2Go, Proloquo4Text, Language Acquisition through Motor Planning (LAMP), Go Talk Now, and TouchChat Word Power. She also has had experience working with dedicated devices and with alternative access AAC including eye gaze and switches. In addition, she has been trained in the Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) and the Prompts for Restructuring Oral Muscular Phonetic Targets (PROMPT) technique. She also holds AAC assessment certificates from the Diagnostic Center of Southern California and the Antelope Valley SELPA.

Lauren currently holds a Bachelors of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders from Emerson College and a Masters of Science in Speech-Language Pathology from Worcester State University. She holds a Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) and is licensed to practice in California and Massachusetts.
