What your child should be saying: 

  • Has words for almost everything (has 200+ words by age 3).

  • Use 2-3 words to talk about and ask for what they want

  • Some speech errors, but is generally understood by most listeners

  • Begins answering “Where” and “Who” questions

 

 

What your child should understand: 

  • Begins understanding a variety of words relating to size (e.g. “big”), color (“blue”), location (“under”),  time (‘’wait”), number (“two cookies”).

  • Follows 2-step directions (e.g. “Take your shoes off and put them under the bed”)

  • Can sit and listen to stories for longer periods of time

  • Can point to objects when described (e.g. “What do you wear on your head?”)
